Parrots International has been supporting the work of Rev. Lorakim Joyner, DVM in Central America.
Dr. Joyner is directing a number of project involving parrots and the surrounding communities in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, largely focusing on conservation efforts for Scarlet Macaws and Yellow-naped Amazons.
The Mission statement of One Earth Conservation includes:
- Develop comprehensive conservation plans that integrate the needs of businesses, animals, habitats, human inhabitants, and future generations of all species.
- ·Support, nourish, and train conservationists for increase effectiveness through building relationships and fostering compassion.
- Connect people to the earth and one another through conservation work
“Dr. Joyner and One Earth Conservation are committed to people, parrots, and peace through the integration of the needs of the many into comprehensive, compassionate conservation strategies. Their goal is to support people and bring them together into international communities so that in the nourishing of one another they contribute to the flourishing of all. Specifically Dr Joyner’s group does this by teaching Nonviolent Communication, gaining and distributing grants to in-country conservation teams, participating as field biologists and conservation veterinarians, and providing networks to bring the people of the Americas together.” In the last year Dr. Joyner has worked in Guatemala, Honduras, Guyana, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and Belize and is starting a parrot conservation project in Nicaragua.
